KLG created a growth and resource strategy for the Chase
Credit Card business. This strategy was based on matching
labor market conditions across the firm’s current
locations with the projected future labor demand and operating
requirements of the Credit Card. Ultimately, Chase was able
to select their Tampa, FL center as the optimal site for
future growth and developed an additional building on their
existing campus to accommodate the needs of the business
in the future.
In order to predict labor needs, KLG developed a labor
demand forecasting model for Chase which utilized projections
of key business drivers to produce highly detailed estimates
of future staffing needs across all functions of the business.
The labor demand projections were matched with the labor
supply dynamics and the competitive environments within
each of the potential location options in order to identify
the optimal market for future expansion.
While KLG developed the labor demand tool primarily to
address Chase’s Credit Card location strategy needs,
it found much wider application in the firm as a core management
tool; providing the firm with the ability to project its
labor demand, its likely future expense levels, and to analyze
the staffing and cost impact of absorbing potential acquisitions.
In fact, during the process to identify the expansion site,
Chase decided to pursue the acquisition of a major new credit
card portfolio from another bank. KLG was able to use the
model to immediately provide the due-diligence team on the
acquisition with an assessment of the staffing and facilities
required to support the new portfolio, along with the cost
of doing so. This provided Chase with a better understanding
of the net value of this portfolio prior to finalizing negotiations
for the acquisition purchase price.
